Penn State’s Students Against Sexist Violence organization will host a “March For Abortion Rights” on Friday, June 24. The rally will begin at 7 p.m. at the Allen Street Gates.

On Friday, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a 1973 landmark decision that established the constitutional right to an abortion. Abortion rights in nearly half of the country are expected to be rolled back immediately, with more restrictions to follow.

“The court’s decision is unacceptable — we will fight back,” Students Against Sexist Violence wrote on Instagram. “It’s time to take the streets and mobilize our rage at this assault on people’s rights. Please alert your people, we will see you at 7pm at Allen Street Gates. Bring your rage, your fighting spirit, your friends, and your signs if you have them.”

Many other local organizations including Centre County DSA, Centre County for Change, and PSU: Why I Didn’t Report helped organize this rally.

In May, State Representative candidate Paul Takac held a “Rally For Reproductive Rights” at the Allen Street Gates in response to the Supreme Court’s confirmation of a leaked draft ruling to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision.
